The Art of Versification

By J. Berg Esenwein & Mary Eleanor Roberts

This book dated 1913 is presumed a first edition. It is "...a practical handbook of the structure of verse together with chapters on the origin, nature, and forms of poetry." The Home Correspondence School, Springfield Mass, published it. There are 311 pages, and it measures 7.5 by 5.25 inches. There is a top gilt edge, and there is no dust jacket. The dark red cloth boards have the title embossed in gold and on the spine. Also on the spine is "The Writer's Library." It is an ex library book, however there are no marks other than the hand written ones on the spine. The corners are very slightly bumped, but overall it is a very clean and tight book. Anyone with an interest in writing poetry would find this book an invaluable tool. As stated in the foreword "Poetry is first a gift, then an art, both the gift and the art demand cultivation."
