This book was originally written in Italian by Luigi Gianoli (1967) and translated by Iris Brooks. This is the first US edition, published in 1969 by CROWN PUBLISHERS, NEW YORK. The boards are gray cloth with gold title on spine. This book is “the most authoritative, comprehensive work on the horse ever published for both scholar and sportsman-including every known activity engaging the horse.” It covers many horse topics including the history of the horse, many horse breeds, equestrian olympic games, horse theory, thoroughbred and harness racing, coaching, polo, foxhunting as well as many types of tack such as bridles, saddles and bits. Both the book and the dust jacket are in very good condition with only minor wear. The top edge has slight soiling. The book measures 12.25 by 9.5 inches, it has 441 pages, 794 illustrations; 179 in full color. This is a lavish coffee table book with great illustrations.
