British Sporting Artists: From Barlow to Herring

By Walter Shaw Sparrow

This book, “British Sporting Artists: from Barlow to Herring” was written by Walter Shaw Sparrow. This book was first published in 1922; this edition is dated 1965 and published by Spring Books, London. This is an unrevised reprint of the 1922 edition, a critical survey featuring the most talented British sporting artists from the 17th century to the late 19th century. The book measures 10 by 7.5 inches. The boards are orange cloth with the title printed in gold. There is no dust jacket. There are 249 pages and 84 full-page plates, 20 in color and one double page color. These beautiful plates depict foxhunting, horse racing, hunting, and the British sporting nobility. The corners are slightly bumped, the book is very tight, and the interior is in good, clean condition with some very minor toning. This is a fascinating book and is quite scarce.
